Powder presses and sintering

From fine-grained particles to the everyday product

Moulding of the future. In the 1950s, the industry realised the benefits of powder metallurgy, which from that point onwards underwent a rapid upturn. This type of component production can be found throughout broad sections of a wide variety of industrial areas, as well as in medical technology and other fields of application. A large variety of types of powder materials are processed, such as powder metal, carbide, abrasive media, ceramics, ferrite, lodestone, PTFE and graphite.

The pressing of powder is a crucial, quality-determining step in the manufacturing process of powder metallurgical components, since the height and uniformity of the compression are pivotal in determining the mechanical properties and the final geometry. The available press concepts range from mechanical and hydraulic presses to servo-electric presses and combinations thereof. Apart from the advantages arising from the nature of the system of servo-electric presses, this type of press stands out especially considering the ever more important aspects of environmental protection and energy efficiency.

The development and production of complex presses has been part of IAG’s core competence for many years now. Our presses yield consistently high quality under optimum economic conditions in production. Our presses can also be deployed for the production of compacts (green compacts), the moulding step in the production process of sintered parts. Today our customer-specific powder presses are used primarily in the automotive industry. Our presses are also suitable for use in the metal and tool manufacturing industry. With the development of ever more complex materials and growing demands placed on industrial production, we are constantly facing new challenges. This means that interlocking with future-oriented topics such as digitalisation and the networking of production processes reveals trendsetting opportunities for our company in the field of innovative technologies involving powder presses and systems. Consistency, experience and precision are our constant companions in the development of customer-specific solutions. This equates to a guarantee of the longevity of the machines and process stability for our customers.

Be it hydraulic or servo-electric press systems - our proven press constructions of our systems are ideal for the precise forming of powdery or fine-grained source materials such as friction lining powder and powder metal, but also ceramic powder and other special materials.

Our press systems are generally built on the basis of specific customer requirements, such as press capacity, the number of punch axles and the size of the tools. The procedural steps, which are precisely adjusted to one another, guarantee high product quality, reliability and customer satisfaction.
